I wrote ‘Dei Verbum’ feeling that the future is already being presented as decided, and that questioning it has somehow become the irresponsible. It’s part of my developing dystopian sci-fi poetry, the collection of HUSH HALO. At the time of writing, this poem is unpublished in print.

Hush Halo · Poetry by Sam Oldman
Do I see it clearly enough?
Clarity doesn’t kill desire,
but anesthetizes it
with intact bedside manners.Shows you a truth
as if it’s a certified map,
a Dei Verbum*,
with such conviction,
with the confidence
of the one percent. This vision so complete
it has convinced both,
me and you,
that moving a bit,
or changing a thing,
would be irresponsible.The percentile tricksters
are hiding the cost
in clarity.Pre-paid panic
entered my spine
as I felt a shadow
of an upcoming disaster
almost like a priest
waiting for God
to cough.

CONTEXT: After the Great Optimization we all had a choice. This poem reflects on the realm chosen by Systoics, a privileged group that integrated into the system, believing they had now perfected themselves.
I’m Sam.
A mother of two,
a neurohappy writer with
a shade of inbuilt melancholy.
